When is the best time to visit Cape San Blas?
Spring and summer are the busiest seasons at Latitude 30 on Cape San Blas, with June and July the peak months, September the start of the wind down, and March and April busy again with snowbird stays, and the pool is heated to 90 degrees all year, so every season swims.
Summer, June through August, is peak season. The water is warm, the days are long, and guided sea turtle nesting walks run most Monday and Wednesday nights, mid June through mid August, at St. Joseph Peninsula State Park. Peak dates and holiday weekends typically fill 4 to 6 months out, so book summer early.
Spring, March through May, fills early: March and April bring snowbird stays, the sand is uncrowded, and the water warms by the week. Turtle nesting season begins in May, so no white flashlights on the beach after sunset from then on.
Fall, September and October, is the quiet secret as the season winds down. The Gulf stays warm into October, the beaches empty out, and the off season brings the fishing, from surf casting to inshore and offshore charters. In 2026 the Gulf County bay scallop season is closed, so plan on fishing, kayaking, and the state park instead.
Winter, November through February, is snowbird season. The pool is heated by gas all year, the hot tub is ready, and stays of up to 28 days are allowed, so the cape becomes a warm, quiet base for long stays and remote work. Cape San Blas is one of the few places on the Florida Panhandle where the sun sets straight over the Gulf, and the winter sunsets from the balcony are the payoff.
